Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica (SIMM) started graduate education in 1955 and it is among the first group of research organizations to develop graduate education in China. Up to now, SIMM had conferred degrees to 1655 students, including 1116 doctors and 539 masters. At present, there are more than 500 graduate students studying at SIMM, among whom 282 are doctoral students. There are 124 supervisors including 79 Ph.D. supervisors.

SIMM is authorized to confer master and doctorate degree of the First-level Discipline in pharmaceutical sciences including Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Analysis, Pharmaceutics and Drug Design.

SIMM has launched the International Master Program in Pharmaceutical Science since 2016. Now SIMM has enrolled students from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Nepal, Thailand, Indonesia, Iran, Nigeria, Ghana, India, etc.
