Assistant Minister of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of Republic of Serbia, Dr. Nikola Tanic visits SIMM

SIMM deputy director, Prof. YE Yang met with Dr. Nikola Tanic, assistant minister of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development, Republic of Serbia, and his wife, Dr. Nasta Tanic on Monday, December 28, 2015. Prof. YE Yang chaired the reception. Ms. SUN Xueping, a Euro-Asia project official from Ministry of Science and Technology of CAS, and Mr. HUANG Sai from European Department of Bureau of International Cooperation, CAS attended the reception. Among the attendees also included Prof. GUO Yuewei, Prof. XUAN Lijiang, Prof. WU Beili, and Prof. XIE Hua of SIMM.

Prof. YE made a brief introduction about SIMM to the guests, which focused on the establishment of Institute of Drug Discovery and Development (IDDD), the basic research, and the progress of the major drug development and the international cooperation of SIMM in the recent years. Dr. Nikola Tanic introduced the research achievements his team made in the medical field in Serbia, especially on oncology and cardiovascular disease research. Dr. Nikola Tanic expressed great interests in the application of natural drug resources on oncology research, hoping to promote the Sino-Serbia concrete cooperation in this field with some constructive suggestions. The bilateral attendees had a deep discussion, which affirmed and supported by the officials from Ministry of Science and Technology of CAS.

Dr. Nikola Tanic and his wife were invited to give lectures about their researches in Serbia during the meeting, which aroused great interests of the other attendees.

In the afternoon, Dr. Nikola Tanic and his wife, accompanied by Prof. YE, had a lab tour on SIMM Zuchongzhi Road campus, Haike Road campus and the National Compound Library (NCL). The guests were impressed by the first-class research facilities of SIMM. Afterward, the guests were also invited to pay a site visit to some local pharmaceutical companies.

The both sides reached a tentative proposal to build up a Sino-Serbia joint research laboratory based on actual market demands of enterprises. This proposal directly addressed the One Belt and Road Initiative policy to deepen Sino-Serbia cooperation on drug discovery, which was supported by all the participant sides.
