February 1-5, 2010, the 7th International Symposium for Chinese Medicinal Chemists (ISCMC) was held in Taiwan Tajen University and Kaohsiung Medical University. The symposium attracted more than 500 scientists in medicinal chemistry fields from Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, USA, Europe, etc., and a total of 278 abstracts were submitted. 20 chemists and pharmacologists from Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica (SIMM) attended this symposium.
Professor Jing-Kang Shen from SIMM has presented a plenary lecture; Professor Yang Ye and Professor Da-Fang Zhong have presented invited lectures; Professor Ao Zhang and Professor Li-Hong Hu have given oral presentations. Their reports presented the important progresses achieved by SIMM in innovative drug discovery in recent years.
It was the third time that ISCMC was held in Taiwan. About 100 scholars from Mainland China attended the symposium. The focus of the symposium was the international frontiers of drug discovery in medicinal chemistry. Topics covered a wide range of fields related to innovative drug discovery and developments such as medicinal chemistry, natural products chemistry, drug molecule design and biology, the integration of academia and the industrial sector in innovative drug research and the exploration of new ideas for drug discovery. The symposium provided a platform for scientists from Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong to exchange ideas, enhance substantial collaborations in new drug discovery and development.
