On July 30, 2014, based on the Journal Citation Reports for the year 2013 issued by Thomson Reuters, the two journals sponsored by the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica (SIMM) hit record highs.

The journal Acta Pharmacologia Sinica (APS) sponsored by the Chinese Pharmacological Society and SIMM achieved a higher impact factor from 2.354 for the year 2012 to 2.496 for 2013. This journal ranked the 115th among the 254 international journals of pharmacy or pharmacology (top 45%), and ranked the 49th among the 148 journals of chemistry (top 33%), and its total citations reached 5875.

The Asian Journal of Andrology (AJA) sponsored by Shanghai Jiaotong University and SIMM achieved a higher impact factor from 2.14 for the year 2012 to 2.53 for 2013. This journal ranked the second among seven international journals of andrology (top 28%), and ranked the 23nd among the 75 international journals of urology or nephrology (top 30%).

In recent years, both APS and AJA acquired the support from the Key Academic Journals Program of the National Natural Science Foundation, the Science Publication Foundation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the program to raise the international impact of the scientific journals in China. Then the academic level and international impact of these two journals went up steadily.
