On the afternoon of August 26, the ceremony of signing agreements to build the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica (SIMM) Yantai Branch jointly was held in Yantai City of Shandong Province. The contracts are among four units including Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica (Chinese Academy of Sciences), the Municipal Government of Yantai, the Administrative Committee of Yantai High-Tech Industrial Development Zone, and Shandong International Biotechnology Park.

The vice dean of Chinese Academy of Sciences Zhang Yaping, the director of Science and Technology Department of Shandong Province Zhai Luning, the secretary of Yantai Municipal Party Committee and the director of Yantai Standing Committee of People's Congress Zhang Jiangting, the director of SIMM Ding Jian, and the leaders and representatives from the Municipal Government of Yantai, the Science and Technology Bureau of Yantai, the Administrative Committee of Yantai High-Tech Industrial Development Zone, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) Shanghai Branch, CAS Shenyang Branch, CAS Shanghai Branch for Life Science and Technology, SIMM, and the Green Leaf Group also attended the ceremony.  

The director of SIMM Ding Jian, the First Deputy Mayor of Yantai Municipal Government Ai Jun, the director of Science and Technology Department of Shandong Province Zhai Luning, the vice dean of Chinese Academy of Sciences Zhang Yaping gave speeches at the ceremony, and expressed their warm congratulations to the agreements signing of SIMM Yantai Branch. They have great confidence in the role that SIMM Yantai Branch will play in the future. This branch will promote the tight combination between scientific technology and economic development, boost the ability of China for innovative drugs, and accelerate the transformation of new research findings.  

As the director Ding Jian indicated, SIMM has comprehensive research strength, the Yantai Biomedical Industry has excellent fundamental resources, and the Green Leaf Group has great ability for innovative drug research. The combination of these units will eventually generate significant achievements, under the guiding goal to develop innovative drugs with independent intellectual property rights, and through new incentive mechanism and tight cooperation between these units with complementary advantages. He firmly believes that the goal of SIMM Yantai Branch will come true in the future.

As the vice dean Zhang Yaping indicated in the speech, the establishment of SIMM Yantai Branch is a strategic deployment and move of CAS to reform the mechanism of transformation of biomedical research and to promote the construction of regional innovative system for the biomedical research in China. He hopes that the incubation and transformation of the most promising projects of CAS at Yantai could contributes to the local biomedical industry as well as the strategic goal to improve the health of the people.

At the ceremony, representatives from SIMM, the Municipal Government of Yantai, the Administrative Committee of Yantai High-Tech Industrial Development Zone, and Shandong International Biotechnology Park signed the agreements for co-construction of SIMM Yantai Branch.
