The 14th Chinese International Peptide Symposium & the 5th Asia-pacific International Peptide Symposium (CPS-2016) was successfully held in Nanjing from 4th to 7th July, 2016, which was hosted by Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Sciences (SIMM,CAS) and China Pharmaceutical University (CPU). Professor Yaqiu Long, from Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Sciences served as the chairwoman of this joint symposium. More than 400 participants attended the meeting, among which were nearly 60 overseas delegates. The CPS-2016 was recognized as an outstanding meeting with highly enjoyable scientific and social program by all the delegates.
The Symposium with the theme ‘Peptides: Innovation, Exploration and Application’, was composed of 6 plenary lectures, 36 invited lectures, 45 oral presentations and more than 80 poster presentations, covering the latest developments, ideas and discoveries in peptide/protein science. The symposium set up young investigator session and peptide industrialization forum for the first time. The new sessions were highly applauded by the participants. Furthermore, seven categories of awards were granted to the outstanding scientists and excellent young scholars in the peptide-related fields. Prof. HUANG Yongzhuo, young principal investigator from SIMM, won the Young Peptide Scientist Award.
CPS was proposed by Chinese scientists and other worldwide recognized scientists such as Nobel Prize Winner Prof. Merrifield. Since 1990, thirteen meetings of CPS have been successively held every two years. It is targeted to the most recent, cutting-edge research on a broad range of the topics in chemistry, biology, pharmaceutics, material, and the crossing trend in peptide science. In conjunction with the 14th Chinese International Peptide Symposium, the 5th Asia-pacific International Peptide Symposium was held in China for the first time, which was launched from Japan in 2004, aiming to gather the peptide/protein scientists from the Asian and Pacific regions to discuss and exchange the latest achievements.
The CPS-2016 was sponsored by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the State Key Laboratory of Drug Research.
