On 25 July 2016, Prof. GUO Dean, from Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica (SIMM), CAS, received the 2016 Varro E. Tyler Prize at the 9th Joint Natural Products Conference 2016 held in Copenhagen, Denmark.
The Prize is awarded by the American Society of Pharmacognosy (ASP) for recognizing an individual who has made outstanding scientific contributions to the broad field of dietary supplements, with special emphasis on botanicals. The contribution should be in an area of phytochemistry, pharmacognosy, or pharmacology. Yearly, only one candidate out of the worldwide nominees could receive the award. So far Prof. GUO is the only Asian/Chinese scholar who won the award.
Prof. Guo has been engaged in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) modernization research for over 30 years, dedicating to promote TCM Standardization and globalization. He has developed a systematical analysis method for active complex TCM ingredients and made a standard system for TCM quality control, which have been successfully applied to the National Pharmacopoeia and the International Pharmacopoeia.
