On 13th August, Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica (SIMM) and Lee Kum Kee Health Products Group signed an agreement on the foundation of SIMM-Infinitus Joint Laboratory for Polysaccharide Research of Chinese Herbal Medicine (hereinafter “Joint Laboratory”) at the International Conference & Exhibition of the Modernization of Chinese Medicine & Health Products (ICMCM) held in Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre. Joint Laboratory will carry out the basic researches on polysaccharide of Chinese herbal medicine and promote the transformation from the results of scientific research into health products. As a result, these will greatly help the discovery of the drug based on functional polysaccharide.

Among bio-macromolecules, sugars have become, subsequent to nucleic acid and protein, the hot research object in life science studies in 21st century. Polysaccharides, a kind of sugar, are with the most complicated structure and the diversified activity. In recent years, the research about polysaccharides in health products has attracted concerns from the more and more corporations. The cooperation between SIMM and Lee Kum Kee Health Products Group is based on the research works carried out for decades by the lab of glycochemistry and glycobiology of SIMM. In the Joint Laboratory, the partner from SIMM will focus on the basic researches on polysaccharide and the partner from Lee Kum Kee Health Products Group in Guangzhou will concentrate on the development of products from research results.
