—Professor Yuichi Sugiyama visitsSIMM
On June 3, 2010, Professor Yuichi Sugiyama, a leading scientist in the area of drug transporter from University of Tokyo visited SIMM and delivered a wonderful speech on transporters and their effects on ADME properties of drugs.
Due to their important roles in ADME process, transporters are drawing more and more attention nowadays. A seminar on drug transporters and their effects was held in Chenggu hall of SIMM, co-hosted by Shanghai Center for Pharmacokinetics and Drug Metabolism Research, Shanghai DMPK Discussion Group and Division of Drug Metabolism, Shanghai Pharmacological Society.
Professor Yuichi Sugiyama, former chairman of the International Society for the Study of Xenobiotics (ISSX) was invited to present a lecture at the seminar. He has been doing research on drug transporter research for 30 years and is one of the pioneers in the area of drug-transporter interaction and transporter model construction, which boosted the research progress of transporters. In his wonderful lecture “Drug Transporters in New Drug Discovery and Development”, he introduced both the fundamentals and frontier developments of drug transporters, covering many aspects such as the synergistic effect of biliary uptake and efflux transporters, the rate-limiting factors in hepatic clearance of drug and polymorphism of OATPs, etc.
In addition to scholars and students of SIMM, many researchers from pharmaceutical companies, like GlaxoSmithKline, Novartis, Roche, Pfizer and WuXi PharmaTech, attended the seminar. The audience benefited from the fantastic seminar with.up-to-date knowledge on advances in transporter research.
