At the invitation of Professor Ming-Hua Xu, Professor Léon Ghosez from Institut Européen de Chimie et de Biologie (IECB) visited the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica on June 30th 2010, and delivered a lecture entitled “Small Natural Product Analog: an Invaluable Resource of New Lead Agents of Medicinal Import”. During the visit, Ghosez introduced their research endeavor on the synthesis of molecules with the aim of evaluating hypotheses about the chemical basis of their biological activities.
Professor Ghosez is the codirector of European Institute of Chemistry and Biology (IECB) in France, Executive Board Editor of Tetrahedron Publications. He is aMember of the Royal Academy of Sciences, Literature and Fine Arts of Belgium. His current research interests include the design and total synthesis of biologically active molecules, chemical proteomics and the search of mild, efficient and “green” Lewis acid catalysts.
