At the invitation of Prof. GENG Meiyu, Dr Isaac P. Witz, Professor of Immunology, Tel Aviv University, Israel visited SIMM and made an academic presentation on 6th July.
Prof. Witz delivered a lecture titled as “Interactions of Metastases with the Microenvironment of the Corresponding Organ Sites”. He introduced the current research status of tumor microenvironment (TME) and the pivotal roles of TME in the initiation and progression of tumor cells. At last, he pointed out that there were still many challenges in the course of targeting tumor-microenvironment, and proposed some possible solutions. The splendid report broadened our mind. After the lecture, the attendees warmly exchanged views with Prof. Witz.
Prof. Witz is devoted to understanding the interactions of tumor cells with their microenvironment, and proposed the pivotal roles of cancer microenvironment in shaping the malignancy phenotype of cancer cells, and is also a pioneer researcher in tumor microenvironment. He dedicates to promoting the research in this area, and has made a big contribution tumor microenvironment research. He usually served for many rounds as president of international conferences of “Tumor Microenvironment”, and is currently the President of the “International Cancer Microenvironment Society”.
