CURRICULUM VITAE
Professor Smith graduated from Rice University where he received his B.A. degree in chemistry and Ph.D. degree in organic chemistry. Dr. Smith’s research has touched a wide of range of fields, including organic and organometallic syntheses, drug metabolism, medicinal toxicology, environmental toxicology, hepatic toxicology, respiratory toxicology, and developmental toxicology. He has published a total of 130 original research articles and reviews. Dr. Smith is one of pioneers in the investigation of mechanisms of acetaminophen toxic action. He has made important contributions in the understanding of the role of reactive metabolites of xenobiotics in organ toxicities. In 1992, Dr. Smith received the Imperial Chemical Industries, Ltd., Traveling Lectureship awarded by Society of Toxicology. As an internationally recognized toxicologist, Dr. Smith has been serving Associate Editor of Toxicology and Applied Pharmacology, and Associate Editor of Toxicology Letters. He has been appointed as faculty at Baylor College of Medicine and the Ohio State University College of Medicine and School of Public Health, respectively. Currently, he is Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Washington School of Medicine and is Director of the Center for Developmental Therapeutics, at Seattle Children’s Research Institute.
