Laggeracrispata (Vahl) Hepper&J.R.I.Wood (=Laggerapterodonta (DC.)Benth.,Asteraceae) was known as “ChouLing Dan” in Chinese meaning an odorouspanacea, and its decoction showed to have bioactivities of anti-leukemia, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and anti-malarial. In the last decades, numbers of constituents, such as monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes, cyclitols, and flavonoids, were reported from L. crispate and other species of Laggera.
As a continuing interest in the antiviral ingredient of Chinese traditional medicines, Researchers from Prof.Tan Changheng’s group in Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, CAS conducted a phytochemical investigation on the plant, which led to the isolation of laggeric acid (1), a novel 4,5-seco-eudesmane sesquiterpene acid, along with 19 known compounds comprising five flavonoids, eight eudesmane sesquiterpenoids and five lignan. The result has been published online on “J Asian Nat Prod Res” (DOI:10.1080/10286020.2013.867850)
