International cooperation is one of key components of Knowledge Innovation Program of CAS, and also a very important task for Shanghai Institute of MateriaMedica (SIMM) to implement the strategy of internationalization.

According to the national strategic demands and the middle-and-long-term plan of CAS, SIMM actively carries out international cooperation and exchanges in accordance with the institute’s policy of “Substantial, Pragmatic, Innovative and Sustainable”.

SIMM enjoys wide-range collaborations with international partners around the world. The cooperation mode has gradually transformed from individual project to comprehensive collaboration programs, such as setting up joint laboratories.

The SIMM-Servier joint laboratory is focused on drug R&D in the areas of central nervous system, cancers and diabetes. To strengthen the strategic collaboration, both parties have jointly established a technology platform for early stage ADME/T evaluation.

SIMM-uOttawa Joint Laboratory of Translational “OMICS” is focused onapplying “omics” technologies in translational research on pathophysiologic mechanism of diseases and on biomarker and drug discovery as well. The China-Canada Symposium on Systems Biology and Personalized Medicine is held by the joint labevery twoyears to enhance the academic exchanges.

SIMM-UCB joint program on computational biology was launched to focus on the development of novel methods of computational biology and their application in the theoretical investigations of protein conformational transition, protein design as well as protein-ligand interactions.

On the basis of the donation by Novo Nordisk (Denmark) of 0.5 million small molecular compounds, the number of compounds collected by the Chinese National Compound Library has now exceeded 11.3 million.

In addition, SIMM has established the innovative partnership with the World Health Organization for drug discovery against neglected diseases.
