International cooperation is one of key components of Knowledge Innovation Program of CAS, and also a very important task for Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica (SIMM) to implement the strategy of internationalization. According to the national strategic demands and the middle-and-long-term plan of CAS, SIMM actively carries out international cooperation and exchange in accordance with the institute’s policy of “Substantial, Pragmatic, Innovative and Sustainable” and taking the great opportunity to undertake the projects of the  Key New Drug Creation and Manufacturing Program.

　　In recent years, SIMM has received the delegations from dozens of countries and regions such as U.S.A, Japan, Russia, France, England, Thailand, Korea and Vietnam, etc. and established fruitful and successful partnership with prestigious research institutes and pharmaceutical companies of over ten countries and regions including England, Switzerland, Germany, U.S.A and France in the research and development of natural antibacterial agents, memory-enhancing drugs and antitumor drugs, etc. The mode of cooperation and exchange has been gradually transited from the transfer of a single project to the co-development of international market, the forming of joint laboratory and the establishment of strategic partnership. Such as, the joint laboratory with Actelion, the joint project to develop new drug with Servier and the joint center for safety study and evaluation with AstraZeneca.
