SIMM Held Legal and Safety Education Lecture for International Students
To further enhance the management and services for international students at the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica (SIMM), improve their awareness and understanding of Chinese laws and regulations, and strengthen their safety precautions and self-protection capabilities, the Graduate Education Office invited experienced Police Officer XU Wei from the Exit-Entry Administration Division of the Pudong Branch of the Shanghai Public Security Bureau to deliver a special lecture on legal and safety education for international students on the afternoon of January 28, 2026.
XU Wei closely addressed the practical needs and common concerns of international students, providing clear explanations in English on visa categories, validity periods, extension procedures, and entry-exit registration processes, along with practical operational guidance. Subsequently, XU Wei emphasized China’s policies and regulations prohibiting the "three illegal activities"—illegal entry, illegal residence, and illegal employment. By analyzing a series of vivid and real-life case studies, he explained in simple terms the necessity and seriousness of complying with relevant regulations, warning everyone to remain vigilant at all times and avoid negligence. XU Wei stressed that abiding by the law is not only the responsibility and obligation of every individual in China but also the foundation for safeguarding their legitimate rights and interests, ensuring the safety of others, and maintaining social stability.
Focusing on two core themes—interpretation of laws and regulations and safety risk reminders—this lecture effectively guided international students in China to deeply recognize the importance of strictly adhering to all laws and regulations during their stay. It played a positive role in promoting the transition of international students from "awareness" and "understanding" of the law to "observance," continuously strengthening their mindset on safety.
